Health Cash Plan FAQs

Q: WHAT IS A HEALTH CASH PLAN?

A: A health cash plan is an affordable type of health insurance policy. A premium is paid each month via the employer (if company paid) or employee (if voluntary paid). The employee can claim cash back up to an annual benefit allowance for everyday healthcare benefits such as dental, optical, prescription charges and physiotherapy.

Q: IS IT EXPENSIVE TO INTRODUCE A HEALTH CASH PLAN?

Q: HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO IMPLEMENT A HEALTH CASH PLAN?

A: Implementation of a health cash plan within a company is quick and straightforward. The provider typically requires basic employee details from the employer. A welcome email is sent to the employer summarising the benefits of the health cash plan. Employees will also receive a welcome pack providing details about their plan and how they can claim.

Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A HEALTH CASH PLAN AND HOW DO THEY COMPLEMENT OTHER HEALTH PRODUCTS?

A: "A health cash plan can support an employer's duty of care to their employees. Plans are designed to offer an affordable solution for employees to look after their health and wellbeing. A health cash plan helps promote a health workforce, reduce absenteeism and increase productivity."

Q: WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM NUMBERS OF EMPLOYEES THAT CAN BE COVERED BY A HEALTH CASH PLAN?

A: Each provider will have their own rules in terms of number of employees covered. Typically, health cash plans can cover organisations with just 3 employees and there isn’t normally a limit to how many they can cover. The Elect health cash plan covers from just one employee. It is down to the employer to stipulate how many people they would like covered.

Q: ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS PLACED ON EMPLOYEE'S ELIGIBILITY FOR A HEALTH CASH PLAN SUCH AS PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS?

A: Health cash plan providers place different restrictions on their policies. Some policies will place restrictions on certain pre-existing conditions and others won’t. It is best to check with the provider. Most plans do not require a medical to join and a GP referral is not required to claim.

Q: CAN EMPLOYEES COVER THEIR PARTNERS

A: Yes, most health cash plan providers offer the partner cover at an extra charge. Dependent children can also be covered and some providers offer this at no extra charge.
